Homework Policy
Grades K–5
We value family time and understand students spend a large part of their day learning at school. Homework may be given but is optional — minimal and focused on reinforcing essential skills introduced in class. We strongly encourage families to engage with these tasks together, and to make daily reading at home a habit: reading together, listening to your child read, or discussing a story for a few minutes each day makes a big difference in fluency, vocabulary, and a lifelong love of learning.
Grades 6–8
In middle school, homework becomes more purposeful — reinforcing learning, preparing for upcoming instruction, and developing study habits and independence. Homework should be meaningful, not excessive; teachers coordinate to avoid overlapping demands. Quality and purpose matter more than quantity, and excessive homework can negatively impact mental health, family time, and sleep.
